Prefab, Modular and Manufactured Homes are sometimes interchangeable depending on the situation. A home that was constructed in a factory and brought to the building site on a flatbed truck and constructed is a Prefab Home.

The same can be said for some Modular Homes. And some Modular Homes are considered ManufacturedHomes when they are assembled in the factory and hauled to the building site using wheels under the unit.

In 1986 the Department of Housing stopped the registration of Manufactured Homes and the Department of Real Estate took over. The homes newer than 1986 have an APN number and pay property tax where the older homes pay a low registration fee annually.
